Many youths in Kenya are under pressure to achieve financial freedom. The youths who work for their own money have learnt the importance of financial responsibility and the benefits of hard work.
In Uasin Gishu County, the youths have diverse ways of making their own money as outlined below.
1. Athletics
The world-renowned track athletes hail from the Rift Valley region. This has motivated many youths from the region to try their luck in the sport.
Many athletes have been able to earn national and international recognition which comes with good money. Youths with an interest in athletes require hard work and persistence to make it in this field.
2. Farming
Farming is regarded as the main economic activity in Uasin Gishu. The county is blessed with arable land thus youth can venture into farming, which is a profitable economic activity.
Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago recently urged youths in the county to grow crops such as potatoes, pyrethrum, avocado, coffee and macadamia, which he said will fetch them big profits due to the readily available markets.
3. Transportation
Transportation is the fastest growing sector in the country.
The bodaboda business which requires little capital to start has been booming in Uasin Gishu. Residents in the county have embraced this mode of transport as it enables them to move around the county with ease.
Farmers also pay bodaboda operators to transport their farm produce to the market in Eldoret town. In return, the youths in the business have been able to reap high profits.
