Political analyst Dennis Anyonka Muturi has observed that the ongoing debate about Deputy President William Ruto's possible impeachment holds water.

The debate was kicked off by Siaya Senator James Orengo who claimed last weekend that impeaching the DP is an easy task if attempted, attracting attacks from the DP's side.

Speaking on Monday, Muturi said that job is indeed an easy task, but faulted Orengo's claims that it can be done through the courts, noting that it only needs political goodwill.

He observed that the motion would only need simple majority support in parliament to succeed, and the mover only needs to rally half of the lawmakers to realize the push.

"Ni rahisi kidogo maana atahitaji tu uungwaji mkono na zaidi ya nusu was wabunge watakaokuwa bungeni wakati huo (it will only require the majority in the parliament)," Muturi said.

He was speaking on Radio Maisha's 'Bunge La Maisha' on Monday morning.

The analyst noted that the process would, however, require the DP to either personally or through his lawyer appear before several parliamentary committees to defend himself.

He also pointed out that the task is further made easy by the fact that the presidency can be divided, meaning that impeachment would not touch on the President.

"Naibu Rais ni msaidizi tu wa rais. Japo walichaguliwa pamoja, mmoja anapoenda mwingine atabaki (though they were elected as an item, they are different entities)," noted Muturi who doubles up as a lawyer.

He said the furthest the courts can go in relation to an attempt to kick DP Ruto out of office is to declare him unfit for office but is unable to make any further ruling.
