Karan who won the seat from former holder David Ochieng' had his election annulled by the Supreme Court on December 21.

This is after the petitioner raised complaints of election malpractices.

With a new by-election set to be held to fill the vacancy which has been declared vacant, ODM Director of Political Affairs and Ugunja lawmaker Opiyo Wandayi says that Karan remains the party's only candidate.

Speaking to the Citizen Digital in Ugunja on Friday, Wandayi said that Karan's nomination in the run-up to the 2017 election stands and will be used in the by-election.

He added that he will back Karan in the poll likely to once again see him face-off with Ochieng of the Movement for Democracy and Growth Party.

Ochieng' decamped to the MDG after falling out with the ODM bloc and was facing off with Karan for the second time after beating him in 2013.

The annulment followed two others at the lower High and Appellate courts, all of which ruled in favour of the petitioner.

National Poll body, the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) is yet to announce the by-election date.
