Opposition leader Raila Odinga is yet to make any attempt to salvage Migori Governor Okoth Obado from his ongoing woes.
Odinga has over time made a name for himself for intervening for those close to him and his Orange party, the latest being his failed attempts to save lawyer Miguna Miguna before his deportation earlier this year.
He is also reportedly the force behind the release of businessman Don Bosco Gichana from Tanzanian cells over money laundering crimes.
Gichana is said to have been an important organ in Odinga’s 2007 presidential campaigns.
And with Obado now undergoing trouble in the hands of the police over his alleged involvement in the murder of Rongo University student Sharon Otieno, the former Premier remains indifferent in public.
This could largely be as a result of his March 9 truce with President Uhuru Kenyatta, where the two agreed to collaborate in bettering the nation.
And with the government now trying to ensure that the slain beauty’s family gets justice through its police arm, Odinga will have contravened the dictates of the truce should he interfere.
Also, Obado has been a troublesome member of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) lately, courtesy of his opposition of the party’s bid to defend the vacant Migori senatorial seat.
The Governor has repeatedly bashed the bloc over its nomination of former Cabinet Minister Ochilo Ayacko and is said to be silently sponsoring Ayacko’s rival Eddy Oketch for the seat.
Raila’s silence, therefore, could be a move to get back at the Governor who is trying to shake his dominance and that of his party in the county.
Lastly, judging by the magnitude of Obado’s case, considering that he is facing charges revolving around murder, Raila is better off aside, to avoid complicating the matter as that could result to a public outcry and will be disadvantageous to the deceased's family which is seeking justice.
This is as opposed to Miguna’s and Bosco’s cases where there were no victims or separate parties involved.
