Bodaboda riders in Keroka, Nyamira County risk arrests following an order by area chief Kennedy Ndege.
According to the chief, bodaboda riders should keep off the roads at 6pm everyday in a move aimed at curbing crime.
The chief stated that he will work closely with police officers to ensure riders are not allowed to operate beyond 6pm during this festive season.
"It is now festive season and crime cases are likely to hike. Riders should keep off the roads at 6pm as this will curb crime. Some riders may take advantage of darkness to lure school girls for sexual intercourse," Ndege said.
Ndege further promised to engage bodaboda officials to implement the directive.
He said some bodaboda riders operating at night have been working in cohorts with criminals in the region.
"I will reach out to bodaboda officials for all the stages to get their input and advise riders not to operate beyond 6pm," he added.
Reached for a comment, Masaba North bodaboda chairman Dominic Babu echoed the chief's sentiments saying riders should observe the rules.
"I encourage riders to a bid by the rules to avoid unnecessary arrests during this festive season," Babu noted.
