The body of a fisherman who was reportedly killed by a crocodile days ago was recovered on Saturday by Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) officers after a two-day search.
Kennedy Ouma, the victim, was reported missing on Tuesday and residents speculate that he was attacked and killed by the reptile near Oele Beach in Bondo, Siaya county.
According to Oele Beach Management Unit Chair William Opondo, the deceased left alone for a fishing expedition on the fateful night.
However, the 32-years-old was never to return.
His departure, according to fellow fishermen, came only moments after the crocodile was spotted in the area.
They would later recover his clothes at the place but failed to recover his body.
According to Opondo, Ouma ignored warnings of the possibility of the crocodile still being around and set off.
“Mr Ouma was alone when he went fishing in the lake despite the fact that a crocodile had been seen in that area earlier in the day,” he was quoted by the Nation.
Yimbo East Member of County Assembly (MCA) Francis Otiato said that such cases have been a routine in the area and is now calling upon the KWS to consider attack victims.
“We are losing our people to wildlife and nobody has ever been compensated for the losses," he said.
This comes at a time when residents have been complaining hippo and crocodile attacks on the shores of the lake with no action being taken by authorities as they claim.
