Uasin Gishu County Assembly Health Committee has given the health CEC 24 hours to reopen the Revolving Fund Pharmacies in the county.
Speaking at the County Assembly premises after the committee, Chairman Hosea Some said failure to reopening the pharmacies which attract actions against the county executive.
"I wonder why the county government closed the pharmacies yet they were not competing with the county as it provides supportive medicine to chronic illness like tuberculosis, mental health, high blood pressure and diabetes among others.
We are giving her 24 hours to reopen the pharmacies with immediate effect since patients are suffering and we will not allow that to happen while we stay silent," said Dr Some.
He revealed that over ten thousand patients had entirely suffered due to the closure of the pharmacies.
Some further said that 513 patients from Soy, 138 from Pioneer, 525 from Uasin Gishu District Hospital are among those who are suffering due to the closure.
Speaking to this writer, Langas MCA Francis Muya said that he came face to face with county staffs in Pioneer and Turbo who were shocked by the decision to close the pharmacies since they were turning away critically ill patients who cannot afford drugs.
Nominated MCA Mary Gorreti said that closing pharmacies will expose more than 11,000 patients in the county to exploitation by businessmen.
