For the first time in as many years, ODM leader Raila Odinga has launched a jibe at Deputy President William Ruto, whom he accuses of being scared of graft war.
At Mombasa on Sunday, Ruto accused Raila of allegedly orchastrating his ouster from Jubilee, a move he said won't materialize anyway.
“The handshake is not a licence for you to bring confusion, propaganda and conmnaship into our party. If they have come to divide Jubilee and the government, we are telling them that we are alert and we know (what you are up to),” he said.
But at Kitui on Monday, Raila described Ruto as 'desperate politician scared of war against graft'.
In his statement, he insisted, Ruto's jibes have something to do with his fear on the ongoing graft purge, adding that it won't end soon.
"You have seen them panicking. They are blaming handshake for nothing. I am absolutely convinced that they are scared of graft war.
"Their days are numbered and soon, they will be nabbed. Let them stop hiding on non issues," said Raila without directly mentioning Ruto's name.
Earlier, a team of ODM leaders led by Junet Mohammed insisted that Ruto is using Raila's relationship with Uhuru as scapegoat to ditch Jubilee party.
Without Ruto's knowledge in March this year, Raila penned an agreement with President Uhuru Kenyatta, which brought to culmination of bitter rivalry that has been ongoing for years.
"There is nothing to hide in the handshake. I even called Kalonzo Musyoka to inform him but he was unreachable. I don't know why they are bitter with my move."
In the past Ruto and a section of politicians allied to him, openly opposed President Uhuru Kenyatta's lifestyle audit, insisting that it is unfairly targeting him.
