A Form Three student from Nakuru County has landed in trouble after she was arrested by the police for allegedly planning to procure an abortion.
Bomet Township Chief Reuben Ngetich who confirmed the incident said the 18-year-old girl was in the company of a 50-year-old woman who was an accomplice.
Ngetich said the girl had travelled from Nakuru to Bomet County to attempt to procure illegal abortion from the elderly woman.
The girl from a school in Nakuru County reached an agreement to pay Sh2,500 to have her six-month pregnancy terminated by the woman.
The chief said the girl had sought help from the woman who is said to be an expert but she had not attended to her when police pounced on them.
“We ambushed them in one of the home at Motigo village in Bomet and found that the girl has already paid Sh2,000 for the service, she was still having a pending Sh500 in order for the services to be rendered,” said Ngetich.
Following the arrest, the girl was taken to Longisa County Referral Hospital for examination before being taken to Bomet Police Station where she is being held together with the woman.
The chief said they have in the past received reports of the woman engaging in the illegal business at her home but there has been no evidence which could lead to her arrest and prosecution.
