Gedi says that claims by the media and certain MPs that she asked MPs to line up to get bribes are false and malicious.

Gedi said that she is a woman of noble character and cannot stoop too low to a point of bribing MPs to reject any report.

The Wajir MP said that certain political forces want to taint her name and character by linking her to bribery claims.

"MPs were not to take bribes to reject the sugar report as the media is widely reporting," she said in an interview with a local daily on Saturday.

Gedi said that the sugar report was rejected because it had serious gaps.

She said that the report had recommended action against certain Cabinet Secretaries who she said had no direct role in the importation of sugar.

Gedi claimed that those pushing for the report are the ones who had been compromised by sugar barons.

She said that she will defend her character against any mud-sliding from critics.

There are allegations that MPs were bribed Sh10,000 to reject the sugar report on Thursday.

A section of MPs among them Kimilili's Dedmus Barasa and Dagoretti's Simba Arati allege that some of their colleagues pocketed money to oppose the report.

Pressure is now mounting on investigative agencies to launch a probe into the bribery allegations in Parliament.
