Police in Kabuchai constituency, Bungoma County are investigating an incident where a landlady allegedly killed his tenant over Sh500 rent.
Neighbours believe that Loice Kasembeli and her husband killed the man, after they found his body in her (landlady's) house on Wednesday morning.
The incident was confirmed by Bungoma Central Sub County Police Commander David Kandie, who said that his officers are already on the job and are investigating it.
The residents said that they stormed the house after not seeing the deceased for a while, after which they turned chaotic and burnt the house in rage.
They also threatened to lynch the accused who has been named Mama Kelele because of her rudeness to her tenants, before the police intervened and saved her, and her husband.
The police shot in the air to disperse the angry crowd which had already pounced on the two with beatings, reports the Citizen Digital.
The neighbours said that the deceased who was a father of one had neck injuries and was found hanged using a rope made from a leso.
Mr Wangila, a neighbour, said that the woman had been holding the suspect in her house for defaulting on paying rent.
“We had earlier confronted Ms Kasembeli and asked her where our [now-deceased] neighbour was. She declined to respond directly, only saying she has a detention cell, in which she throws rent defaulters. Early today [Wednesday], we stormed her house and found the man’s lifeless body in one of the rooms,” he said.
