Ms Irene Mayaka, who headed 'Daughters of Raila' lobby group in 2017, has been cleared by the courts to return to the assembly after a long battle with her competitor, Damaris Mouni who also claimed nomination by the ODM party.

"The network is proud to announce Honorable Cde Renee Nyakerario Mayaka will officially be worn in next week Tuesday 23 April 2019, as a nominated member of Nyamira County Assembly, delegated by the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), to serve all citizens of Nyamira County," the group said in a text.

"As one of the 14 successful participants of this year's ALN Women Leadership Programme, we are as a network in full support of her election.Cde Renee Nyakerario Mayaka is also amongst the 18 remaining contestants of the Ms President Academy," the statement said.

Ms President runs in KTN home and Ms Mayaka is among the 18 remaining contestants. The network is running such programmes across Africa to encourage women to run for elective positions.

IEBC wrote to Speaker Moffat Teya last week, informing him to clear the youthful ODM leader. She was first sworn in last year after winning in High Court but Mouni appealed the decision. The Court of Appeal ruled in favour of Mayaka.

ODM party is contemplating to take disciplinary actions against Ms Mouni, accusing her of irregularly sneaking her name to nomination list at the expense of Mayaka.
