Makadara Member of Parliament George Aladwa has been the latest leader to weigh-in on the recently launched police reforms, throwing his weight behind the changes.
Speaking on Radio Jambo Saturday morning, Aladwa hailed President Uhuru Kenyatta for merging the Kenya Police and Administration police units, terming it a good move.
Judging by the duplication of ranks and roles as each has its own rankings and responsibilities despite both being the police, he noted that the merger will reduce the cost of running the force.
‘’Kila kitengo kilikuwa na wakubwa wake ambao kazi zao zinafanana. Naunga mkono kwamba sasa kimekuwa kitu kimoja (I fully support the new joint rankings and merger),’’ said the lawmaker.
Aladwa who doubles up as the opposition’s Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Chair for Nairobi County further pledged support for the changes.
With the force now set to switch to blue uniforms from the current ones, he saw no problem in the change, pointing out that it must have been given a special consideration by the relevant persons before being approved.
‘’Hizi sare zilikuwa zishaangalia na kupitishwa na ndio maana hata Rais Uhuru Kenyatta hana shida nazo. Cha muhimu ni kazi ifanyike (the uniforms have been approved by above everyone, the President, so we should not complain as long as they deliver),’’ added the legislator.
The President, on Thursday, also announced that junior officers will no longer be housed in camps, but be allocated house allowances to house themselves in their places of choice instead.
