A 46-year-old man is currently being held at the Keumbu Police Station in Nyaribari Chache Constituency, Kisii County after he was allegedly found in possession of a stolen metal door.
Daniel Nyamote, a shoeshiner at Keumbu market was arrested on Wednesday.
Keumbu police boss Joshua Muthoka confirmed the arrest, noting that Nyamote is accused of stealing the door from a construction site in the area.
"The suspect was hired to paint the house which is still under construction after he told the owner of the house that he is capable of painting the doors. He eventually decided to steal one of the doors which was yet to be fixed," he said.
Mr Muthoka said when the owner of the house went to inspect the ongoing painting of the doors on Wednesday, he found one metal door missing.
"The matter was reported to the police and he was the first suspect because he didn't show up at work. Police stormed his rental house in Keumbu market where he was found sleeping with the door hidden under his bed," said Muthoka.
He noted that the suspect was taken to the Keumbu Police Station, adding that he will be arraigned in court and charged with theft.
