Speaking on Saturday at Serena hotel in Nairobi, Raila said that the Building Bridges Initiative (BBI) will transform this nation if it is embraced by all Kenyans.

The former Prime Minister argued that his handshake with President Uhuru Kenyatta is the best thing that has ever happened to this nation since it gained independence.

He noted that his change of tune has transformed different sectors just as he dreamed when he was contesting for the presidency in 2017 before he was floored by the Jubilee party.

"Let us come together and go to 'Canaan' through building bridges," he said, as quoted by Daily Nation.

The ODM leader also said that the handshake was not meant to block Deputy President William Ruto from ascending to power. He opined that leaders allied to the second in command have no reasons to fault him over what he happening in the party.

At one point, Raila joked that he is no longer playing in the same league with other leaders in an apparent reference to Ruto, who has hinted at succeeding President Kenyatta upon completion of his term in office.

Ruto and Raila have continued to differ over a number of issues including the fight against graft and constitutional amendments.
