It is just a matter of time before the Director of Criminal Investigations (DCI) George Kinoti runs out of steam in his efforts to pursue the corrupt, Alego Usonga Member of Parliament Samuel Atandi has observed.
Atandi has noted that Kinoti has attracted so many 'enemies' since he started investigating high profile economic crimes who are determined to stop him.
In an interview on NTV on Monday, the MP pointed out Deputy President William Ruto as the ringleader of the senior government officials out to frustrate 'powerless' Kinoti.
"DCIO is a very small person in government and if the DP and all these people are training guns at him, there’s very little that he can do," Atandi stated.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) legislator opined that the institutions mandated to fight corruption; the DCI, Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) and Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), was losing momentum and called on Kenyans to take over graft fight.
"If the political class will not be able to take charge of the war on corruption, we have to go to the streets and force corrupt out of office," he said while expressing concerns that the war on graft using the institutions set up might not succeed.
Former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka on Sunday expressed similar sentiments when he said the war on corruption in Kenya will only be won if citizens stage a Sudan-like revolution that led to the ouster of former President Omar Al Bashir.
“With no high-level prosecution expeditiously taken, Kenyans might be tempted to an uprising. The time to get our orientation right is now,” Musyoka said during a church service at St Stephen’s Church on Jogoo Road, Nairobi.
