New Kisumu Catholic Archdiocese Archbishop Philip Subira Anyolo received a wide range of gifts during his official installation ceremony held at the Uzima University College Grounds in Kisumu on Saturday.
Among leaders who showered him with gifts was Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong’o through his County Executive Committee (CEC) Member for finance Nerry Achar.
The Governor presented the Bishop with a symbolic key to the City of Kisumu.
"In recognition of this uniqueness and as an affirmation that we have indeed opened our doors and hearts to you; it gives me pleasure on behalf of the people of the city of Kisumu to gift you with a symbolic key to the city. This should be confirmation enough that you are not here as a stranger but as one in communion with the family of Kisumu," said the Governor through his CEC.
Bishop Anyolo took over from Zaccheus Okoth who had served as Kisumu Catholic Archdiocese since May 21, 1990.
Deputy President William Samoei Ruto and ODM party leader Raila Amollo Odinga are among several political leaders who attended the colourful installation ceremony.
In November last year, Pope Francis appointed Bishop Philip Anyolo as Archbishop of Kisumu Catholic Diocese.
He was serving as the Bishop of Homabay.
