Located in Sakwa, Bondo in Siaya county, this is where the likes of opposition leader Raila Odinga and his elder brother and former area lawmaker Oburu Oginga were born and brought up.

However, despite being a large farm and capable of housing all of them, Raila would with time move out to establish his own homestead, the Opoda Farm, ten Kilometers away.

This had everything to do with the Luo culture which compels every son to move out of their father’s homestead once they come of age and have their own families.

On the other hand, Raila is a man on his own level and with his own level of privacy and needed his own place to undertake his own agricultural operations which would have been impossible at Kang’o.

However, his son Fidel would be buried at the family gravesite at Kang’o upon his death in 2015, a gravesite that also hosts Oginga and other family members including his siblings

This was because though he had established his own young man’s house at Opoda, he was yet to traditionally move there, rendering him his grandfather’s boy.
