Maanzo said the country is well represented hence there is no need of creating more seats.

The Wiper MP said the referendum should focus on reducing the wage bill, electoral reforms, justice and equality among Kenyans.

He also recommended for the change of governance structure to ensure inclusivity.

“The idea by some people that more political seats should be created is not good, the focus of referendum should be about electoral reforms,” Maanzo said.

Maanzo addressed the press in his constituency on Wednesday.

He said the electoral injustice is to blame for inequality and discrimination in governance.

Manzo said the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) needs serious reforms in order to guarantee fairness.

“We will champion for the referendum so long its objective is to reduce the wage bill and guarantee inclusivity,” he said.

Maanzo added that referendum is crucial in both reconciling and healing the country.

“I don’t see anything wrong in pushing to change some sections of the law that are not working,” Maanzo said.

The referendum debate has heated up with the majority of politicians across the divide supporting it.

However, some politicians are against the plebiscite, claiming that those pushing for it have ill motives.

Garissa Township MP Aden Duale has maintained that referendum is not a priority now and that Kenyans should reject it.

Opposition leader Raila Odinga has been quoted saying that referendum is unstoppable and was part of his unity deal with President Uhuru Kenyatta in the famous March 9 handshake.
