The swearing came after the new Inspector-General of Police Hillary Nzioki Mutyambai was sworn into power.

The swearing in of both took place at State House on Monday.

The ceremony was conducted by Head of Public Service Joseph Kinyua.

President Uhuru Kenyatta who was accompanied by his deputy William Ruto congratulated Boinett following his elevation.

Boinett handed over power to the incoming police boss.  He was chosen on December 4, 2014 to succeed embattled David Kimaiyo following his resignation from office. His successor Mutyambai has promised to do better than Boinett before he completes his tenure.

“As I assume office as the new IG, I am conversant with the security threats our country still faces, especially terrorism, organized crime, corruption, cattle rustling among others. Multi-agency approach still remains the best way to tackle these challenges,” he said.

During his tenure as the IG, Boinett oversaw a number of changes in the police boss. A change in police uniform and merger of Kenya police with Administration police. He has since pledge to deliver his duties following the honor. The new IG has promised to transform the police service.
