The former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has congratulated President Uhuru Kenyatta after he declared that he will not push for constitutional reforms to cling to power after he retires in 2022.
During an interview with CNN’s Richard Quest that was aired on Monday, October 29th, President Uhuru stated that he is not interested in serving another term.
"I'm not interested in serving another term. I will not take up the chance even if everyone wanted me to. I am not seeking to change the Constitution to cling unto power," said Uhuru.
His bold declaration has attracted different views from both politicians and other Kenyans.
The former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale took to Twitter to congratulate the Head of State for his declaration.
“@UKenyatta told CNN’s Richard Quest that he won’t amend the constitution to seek a third term. And with that, went up into smokes the dream of those who wanted to bait him so that they become ceremonial presidents! Congratulations Mr President!” wrote Boni Khalwale.
Various sources had hinted that constitutional reforms will be pushed so that a Prime Minister position is created for President Uhuru Kenyatta to stay in power.
Various people have already declared their interest in the top seat come 2022 including DP Ruto, former Kiambu governor William Kabogo and Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria among others.
