A section of Nyamira residents poured to the streets to protest rendering of Nyamira- Endiba road which joins Borabu and West Mugirango constituencies.
For the better part of Wednesday morning, businesses came into stand still as rowdy protesters demanded answers over the contract which allegedly went to three anonymous contractors.
Their leader, Sammy Charana accused Borabu MP Ben Momanyi and regional KERRA manager Eng. Nkundu of allegedly swindling taxpayers money from the road by awarding three contracts concurrently.
"We demand that MP Momanyi comes clean on this matter. He started it all and we are seeing three contractors on the site, paid by taxpayers.
"Engineer Nkundu has been perpetuating impunity and we can't allow this to happen any longer. It's time that he resignes," he said.
According to him, the contract was first given to a local contractor at Sh2 million and reportedly did shoddy job before getting payment.
Weeks later, another contractor was deployed to the site to do the same job at Sh2.5 million before authorities again gave same road to another contractor, concurrently with the second one at Sh5 million.
Trenches were dug by protestors making the road impassable with Mr. Charana saying 'its just but the start of real fight'.
It could not be immediately established why Mr. Momanyi and the engineer incharge could award contract to the same road to three people.
Efforts to reach the two were futile as non responded to phone calls by the time of going to the press.
