A class six boy at a local primary school in Omosocho village, Kiogutwa in Manga is currently fighting for his life at a Nyamira Hospital after he allegedly consumed excess chang'aa on Monday.
Clinton Nyaming'a is said to have consumed chang'aa which his mother, Elizabeth Nyakara sells to clients.
Neighbours said Nyaming'a got the chang'aa packed in a 5-liter jerrycan inside his mother's bedroom.
"The victim stole chang'aa using a 500g bottle. He hid in a banana plantation and consumed it alone," said Zipporah Nyakoyo.
Mrs. Nyakoyo noted that the victims mother when she returned from a women self-help group meeting at 5 pm she found the boy unconscious.
"His mother raised alarm to attract the members of the public who arrived and rushed the victim to hospital where he is currently being treated," she added.
Area assistant chief, Daniel Bosire said it was by the grace of God the victim is still breathing.
"Our people doesn't want to stop making and selling of illicit brew. The victim's mother has gone into hiding but, soon she will be apprehended," said the chief.
He said he will move in person from house to house starting Wednesday in search of illicit brew.
