The position of a deputy governor became vacant after then deputy governor Polycarp Igathe resigned on January 12, 2018, after allegedly failing to earn Sonko’s trust.

Speaking to Citizen TV, Sonko revealed that he will name his deputy governor on Friday this week.

He also revealed that he will be naming his full cabinet.

“Tukirudi Nairobi, nakuja na full cabinet nakuja na Deputy Governor,” said Sonko as quoted by Citizen.

This loosely translates into: When we get back to Nairobi, I will come with the full cabinet and a deputy governor.

Sonko, who is currently in Mombasa will be expected to name a deputy governor and fill vacancies for County Executive Committee (CEC) members, some of who were sacked and others resigned.

So far, only three CEC are in office. That is, Allan Igambi in Finance, Charles Kerich in Lands and Mohammed Dagane in Transport. The last CEC to resign was Janet Ouko under Education.

This leaves the county government with two vacant positions for the County Executive Committee (CEC) members, which Sonko has promised to fill on Friday as he unveils his new deputy governor.
