Former East African Affairs and Labour Cabinet Secretary Phyllis Jepkosgei Kandie has been plunged into a state of mourning after losing her mother.
Ms Kandie revealed that she had lost her mother in a terse tweet on Saturday.
"R.I.P mom. You will forever remain in my heart, " the former CS's tweet read.
It is not clear what led to the death of her mother as she did not reveal the cause in her tweet.
Also not clear in the tweet are the burial arrangements and when and where the death occurred.
Phyllis Kandie is currently serving as Kenya's ambassador to Belgium, Luxemborg and the European Union a post she assumed after leaving her cabinet secretary job.
The Kenyan ambassador has over the years a reputation for taking a low profile.
She appeared in the media only when it was necessary and tried as much as possible to avoid stirring controversy.
When Uhuru assumed the reins of power in the 2013 general elections, Phyllis Kandie was among the pioneer cabinet secretaries of the Uhuru administration.
The Parliamentary committee vetting cabinet secretaries rejected her over what they called her nervous performance during vetting.
She was eventually accepted by Parliament after a vicious debate.
