Kisii county women representative Hon. Janet Ongera has launched a soccer tournament termed Dimba Mashinani.
The tournament will see a total of 250 teams picked from every sub-location, which is the smallest administrative unit across the county, compete for the top price.
The opening matches were played at Nyaore grounds in Bogeka ward, Kitutu Chache South, where various teams played as an opener to the two-month long competition that is meant to end in February 2019.
"I, as your mother, will not be giving you fish on daily basis. I am now giving you a fishing rod and training you on how to fish," said Janet in her opening speech.
Ms. Janet further added that the emerging winner will be inculcated into the Kisii county team where the county will fully take the sponsorship of the team.
"We are scouting for talent and we want to see you young people use your talents for the betterment of the great Kisii county. We don't want you to engage in any sort of crime, that is why we are making such arrangements as this to keep you off trouble."
The event was graced by the Kisii county Governor H.E. Hon. James Ongwae, his deputy Hon. Joash Maangi, Nyamira county woman rep Jerusha Momanyi, Kisii county first lady Elizabeth Ongwae and Kisii County Commissioner Godfrey Kigochi
