According to a Human Rights Group, Gusii Governance Watch chairman John Momanyi, the outcome of the headcount which was done on all employees in the county is not yet known.

Speaking at Kanunda in Nyamataro, Kisii County, Momanyi urged Ongwae to move with speed to release the list of ghost workers and those who were hired illegally.

"Governor Ongwae must stop joking with the people of Kisii. Let him come out and tell people the outcome of employees' headcount," said Momayi.

He said the county boss should follow the footstep of Nyamira Governor John Nyagarama who a few days ago released a list of at least 1,000 people who were illegally hired after a payroll audit.

"Money being paid to ghost workers and those recruited through the backdoor should be used to fund development projects. Ongwae must release the list of ghost workers," he added.

Momanyi claimed that there is sluggish development in the county because more funds are being used to pay ghost workers.
