It is not a secret that Kiambu County is home to some of the country's well-known billionaires.
The county which prides itself in having produced two of the four Kenya's Presidents has produced some of the wealthiest families in the country and by extension in Africa.
The family of Kenya's founding President Mzee Jomo Kenyatta and the current Head of State Uhuru Kenyatta is said to possess lots of wealth which some publications estimate to be over 40 billion.
Former Cabinet Minister and Kiambaa MP Njenga Karume's family also controls billions which the shrewd businessman had accumulated in many years.
Other families still holding huge amounts of money are that of former Ministers Mbiyu Koinange, Njoroge Mungai, Stanley Githunguri, Arthur Magugu and former Limuru MP Kuria Kanyingi.
Former Attorney General Charles Njonjo has also been mentioned as another politician from Kiambu who owns billions but it is a claim he has watered down.
In a 2015 interview with Business Daily, celebrated journalist Jackson Biko tried to make Njonjo reveal his worth and this is the answer he got.
"I’m a poor man. I’m not worth anything," said the man who turns 99 next year.
Pressed further to disclose the property he owns, the former Constitutional Affairs Minister admitted he only owns 20 pinstripe suits all of which were imported from Britain and left the topic at that point.
But according to various sources, it was an understatement for Njonjo to say he is a poor man as it is well known he possesses huge tracts of land in Limuru, Kabete and Githunguri where he grows coffee and rears dairy goats.
Other sources indicate he owns massive shares in listed companies among them Barclays Bank, CFC Bank, Standard Bank and CMC Motors Group Limited and Alico Insurance.
