Political pundits have called on President Uhuru Kenyatta to stop ‘overdeveloping’ Central Kenya and focus on other areas in the country which are in dire need of development.
Political analyst Dr Onyango Ochieng Jr says that statements issued by Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria on New Year’s Eve about Central Kenya being underdeveloped are untrue.
According to the analyst, the region is one of the recipients of multi-billion projects initiated by the Jubilee government whilst other regions grapple with the lack of basic social amenities such as infrastructure, schools among others.
“Even the fish processing factory is in Thika. Which lake is in Central Province? Which lake is in Kiambu? Moses Kuria should now even be telling the President that you have developed us more than enough,” he observes in a video posted on Albert Nyakundi Amenya alias Banana Peddler Facebook page.
Onyango cites Lamu as one of the counties within the Coast region where development should be channelled because it looks like a “desert in Libya”.
The analyst also points out that the problems Central Kenya residents encounter are “bread and butter” problems while other citizens in places such as Pokot, Maasailand and Nyanza battle overwhelming challenges.
“Go to places like Pokot, you will even wonder where the government has been since 1963. People are still struggling for water to drink. Go to Central Kenya today; their problems are of bread and butter," states he.
President Uhuru in a rejoinder on Monday castigated the MP over his statement noting that every part of the country deserves development.
Uhuru bluntly said that he was elected to develop the whole country and not Central Kenya alone.
However, Kuria in a recent interview with Hivisasa noted that development projects in Central Kenya are indeed there, some completed while others are ongoing.
