Deputy President William Ruto’s 2022 presidential bid has continued to cause division and political rivalry among Rift Valley’s politicians.
Majority of the leaders from this vote-rich region were elected on Jubilee party tickets in 2017 but the emergence of the ‘Tanga Tanga' and ‘Kieleweke' groups in the party has since complicated Jubilee's politics.
Although William Ruto is perceived to be the frontrunner in the 2022 presidential race, a section of politicians from his home region have strongly criticized his leadership and are against his rise to the presidency.
Speaking to the Standard, Cherangany Member of Parliament Joshua Kutuny who is a member of the 'Kieleweke team' has accused their opponents of protecting corruption.
"Between the Tanga Tanga and Kieleweke... One group is trying to protect corruption that is rampant while the other is pushing for a corrupt free society and it will be up to the electorate to make a choice” Kutuny said as quoted by the standard.
On his part, Moiben legislator Silas Tiren, has accused the Jubilee government of not fulfilling its manifesto.
“Residents were promised so many things but nothing has come to pass. Those already in 2022 campaigns should first think about what they pledged,” said Mr Tiren.
The two legislators are known to be Ruto’s critics and their rivals have branded them rebels.
