The accident that led to the death of former Nyeri Governor Wahome Gakuru be unravelled by a public inquest.
This is after Directorate of Criminal Investigations called on the courts to carry out an inquest into the accident.
According to DCI boss, George Kinoti, the office of the DPP had ordered the matter to be unravelled through a public inquest. The governor died about three months after taking office.
Questions into his death were raised by his deputy Mutahi Kahiga. During Gakura’s burial, Kahiga called on the government to conduct speedy investigations into the accident.
“I keep asking everybody who bothers to listen, how did Wahome Gakuru find himself in the Mercedez Benz outside Nyeri… it was faulty and he had told me three or four times ‘my brother hii gari ndio itaniua’ (this is the car that will kill me),” said Governor Kahiga said.
The hearing of the matter is set to begin on January 16, 2019.“We suspect Wahome was assassinated and it was made to look like an accident.
There could be individuals using the system to frustrate the case and the investigations,” said Waruru Ndegwa, the family’s spokesperson.
