For over 8 hours, Ochuka temporary took over as loyal forces struggled to contain mutiny.

Sensing defeat, Ochuka along with Sergeant Oteyo Okumu forced Maj. Nick Ole Leshani to fly them on Buffalo to Dar es salaam.

But in Nairobi, loyal forces led by Brigadier Mohammoud Mohammed of Kenya Army and a section of GSU crashes the Junta as normalcy returned.

It took the intervention of Lt. General Lazarus Sumbeiywo to ferry under siege President Daniel Moi to Nairobi where he addressed the nation minutes to 6pm on August 1st 1982.

Thereafter, due to good regional relationship, Tanzania handed the two coup leaders to the country for prosecution.

They were tried and convicted of treason and would be hanged later on 1987.

Since then, Moi changed his style of leadership where Kenya become a single party state until 1992.

Ochuka, although unconstitutionally, remains the shortest serving president internationally.
