My attention has been drawn from allover the globe by the rising rates of crime more so the emerging crimes brought by the advancement in technology.
Just like any other person, people ask when and how will criminality can come to an end.
Criminology professionals have been underrated in the growing democracies especially Kenya with the crimes exacerbating along the streets and in offices each day.
But What is this profession called Criminology?
To begin with, I have to note that Criminology is a scientific study. It entails extensive work on understanding the nature, extent, causes of crime, the relationship and the reaction of the society towards it.
Kenya, for example has in recent times been at the global headlines for Criminal cases, especially white collar crimes committed by the haves in the society. It is probably a fair way of saying corruption.
The government of Kenya through the ministry of Interior Coordination and National Government, should employ the services of Criminology graduates to avert high and increasing crime rates in the country.
Crimes by the powerful people remain uncovered due to their social, economic status in the society.
Therefore Criminology is a more viable profession and should be incorporated in all state departments in order to help bring perpetrators of crime to book.
At the Kibabii University, for instance, Criminology graduates are given quality and modern technical, professional skills to deal with all manner of crimes in the world.
"Criminology graduates are more efficient and prepared for service delivery in any government department or private sector. Kibabii University is endowed in producing quality graduates to fit in the world market as per the demand and rising crimes," reads a training catalog at the institution.
Criminology, as a new discipline, has professionals such as Dr.Peterson Mwai Kariuki, Dr.Evans Makori Oruta, Mr.Moses Adama, Dr.Catherine Lagat, Dr.Elijah Odhiambo, Mr.Collins Gaunya.
These and many other experts have a the capability to assist the government and other private entities in getting a lasting solution to the crimes in the country.
As such, the government should seek the services of the Criminologists across the country to help in curbing the emerging trends.
