Former Kakamega Senator Boni Khalwale has mocked former Prime Minister Raila over his last year's peace deal with President Uhuru Kenyatta.
With a day left to mark one-year anniversary of the now-famous March 9 handshake, Khalwale has thrown a jibe at Raila saying he has nothing to show over his truce with the Head of State.
While observing Uhuru has benefited massively courtesy of neutralising the opposition by having the ODM leader on his side, the former lawmaker said Raila was yet to record any achievement.
He claimed the former Prime Minister reconciled with Uhuru with an intention of inheriting his support base when he retires in 2022, but noted that has remained just a dream and Raila has now resulted into blaming Deputy President William Ruto.
"A year after the handshake, Uhuru Kenyatta has gotten 100%+ what he bargained for! Namely unchallenged implementation of his agenda Big-4 in an atmosphere of calm/tranquility/peace. Raila hoped to leverage on it for a 2022 win. He’s still at ground zero! Don’t blame William Ruto!" he tweeted on Wednesday.
Khalwale was a fierce defender and campaigner for Raila during the 2017 polls but recently decamped to Ruto’s camp saying he has "seen the light".
However, in an exclusive interview on Kameme FM on Thursday, the ODM said his truce with Uhuru was not about 2022 polls but was meant to end the hostilities in the country which emerged after 2007 disputed elections.
"If we didn’t do something, this could have been worse than 2007. That’s the reason for the handshake, to cool tempers by bringing people together. We agreed to bury our differences and resolved that if we speak differently, it will not solve the issues," Raila said
