A day after a publicised road show in West Pokot by a section of his die-hard supporters, Deputy President William Ruto has now pleaded with his die-hard supporters to stop mock campaigns in his name.
The second-in-command, who is optimistic of clinching the Presidency in 2022, demanded that those supporting him should desist from engaging in activities that could cost him as he seeks to ascend to power when that time comes.
In a statement released yesterday by his spokesman David Mugonyi, Ruto, who is considered as one of the forefront runners in the contest to succeed President Kenyatta, also assured Kenyans of his commitment towards the implementation of the Big Four Agenda.
"The Deputy President, therefore asks those running noisy charades and mock-campaigns to use their energy more productively,” read part of the statement, as quoted by Standard.
A section of leaders opposed to his Presidency have been accusing him of engaging in early politics at the expense of the common mwananchi.
The statement comes barely a week after Mombasa Governor Ali Hassan Joho revealed that ODM Leader Raila Odinga asked his team to ensure that Ruto doesnt ascend to power
Ruto is expected to lock horns with Former Vice President Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka. Other candidates who have expressed interest in the seat are Machakos Governor Alfred Mutua and his Mombasa counterpart Ali Hassan Joho.
