According to Akama, the hiked suicide cases are worrying and spells doom for the future of the Gusii community given that youths have been ending their lives prematurely.

He said in Nyamira and Kisii counties 10 youths committed suicide in only two weeks.

"It is a bad omen for the Gusii community because our youths are ending their lives unnecessary. Youths need to involve family members in resolving issues instead of resorting to committing suicide," he said on Sunday at the institution.

Mr Akama appealed to parents to ensure their children are well taken care of to curb suicide cases.

He argued that most youths committing suicide have lost love with life due to the numerous challenges they face.

"There is a need for youths to love their lives and change their poor mindset despite the life challenges," stated Akama.

The VC reiterated that members of the clergy should also pray for youths who are resorting to committing suicide anytime they face difficulties in life adding that youths should seek counselling services from elders and local pastors.
