Fidel Castro Odinga who died on January 4, 2015, was buried on Saturday, January 10 at the Oginga cemetery located at Kang'o Ka Jaramogi in Bondo, Siaya County.

He was laid to rest next to his predecessors at the cemetery and alongside his grandmother and Oginga's first wife Mary Odhiambo who died in 1984.

Next to them are his departed kin Master Omondi Oginga who died in 1956 aged 8 months old, Raila Osewe (1992), Ngire Omuodo (1983) and Frederick Odima (1975).

Jaramogi who was also buried in the same compound was laid to rest inside the Jaramogi Oginga Odinga mausoleum which is now a museum.

Fidel had to remain at his grandfather's home because despite having constructed his home at Raila's home in Opoda kilometres away because he was still considered a boy by the Luo traditions.

However, being an influential man from a powerful family deeply rooted in Luo traditions, settling on his burial spot needed keenness.

Consequently, it took time to be agreed on by older members of the family.

“The late Fidel had not constructed a homestead according to the Luo customs. He is therefore considered a child and cannot be buried in his new house at the Opoda farm," his uncle Otengo Omindo told the Nation.
