The riders, led by their chairman Dominic Babu, claimed that they stopped paying taxes to the county government of Nyamira until it constructs sheds for them.

"We agreed to stop paying taxes to Governor Nyagarama's government because there are no bodaboda sheds in the are like other areas. But it is very unfortunate that police officers in collaboration with county askaris have been harassing us and apprehended us carelessly over baseless reasons," said Babu.

Babu called on Matiang'i to move with speed and compel police officers to stop subjecting bodaboda riders to physical and mental torture.

"We are not enemies to be arrested carelessly by rogue police officers. No rider is going to pay tax to Nyagarama's government until boda boda sheds are constructed," he added.

He reiterated that there is no amount of intimidation or blackmail is going to succeed to force the riders to resume paying taxes.
