Political analyst Brian Weke now claims that President Uhuru Kenyatta's failure to acquire a Sh368 billion Chinese loan was due to a disagreement between the two nations.
Speaking on Saturday, Weke claimed that the disagreement was as a result of a disagreement on the terms of the loan which was set to be used in railway construction.
According to him, Uhuru and opposition leader Raila Odinga wanted the loan given in two faces, half as a grant and half as a loan, while the Chinese Exim bank wanted to give a complete loan backed by a collateral.
"Hawakuelewana maana wachina walitaka iwe mkopo na wapeane rehani ilhali Uhuru na Raila walitaka ile nusu mkopo na nusu mkopo usiolipwa (they failed to agree as the Chinese wanted Kenya to provide a collateral while Uhuru wanted it given in both a loan and a grant)," he said.
Weke, who doubles up as a lawyer was speaking on Radio Jambo Mazungumzo Waziwazi on Saturday morning.
However, he too welcomed the result, saying that it would be better if the nation shelved the loan pursuit and instead concentrate on refurbishing the old railway.
"We should concentrate on refurbishing the only one because its more viable," he added.
