Fridays and Mondays are a nightmare to many job seekers as most employers schedule these days for job interviews.

In a country where the job market is suffering from surplus labour, the competition is stiff for the few job openings advertised.

As such, there is the need for one to prepare well for the interview questions that would likely be asked during an interview.

Here are common questions job seekers have to deal with during interviews:

1. Tell us about yourself

Anyone who has been to a job interview has come across this question before.

In many situations, it is the first thing you encounter at that ‘cold’ room.

This question offers you a moment to sell yourself.

Consider it as that moment you pitch for your product.

Apart from talking about your academic achievements, talk about your experience and expertise in that field.

“I am an energetic young man with experience in digital marketing having worked in the field for the last two years. The two years gave me an in-depth understanding of the market …”

 2. Why did you leave your last job?

This question cuts through the heart for those who have worked elsewhere.

But it is not a chilling question to make you freak out.

You could talk of wanting career growth, new challenges or looking for greener pastures.

However, never bad-mouth your last job or employer lest you appear a creepy guy no one would like to employ.

3. Your salary expectations

With the high number of unemployment in a country like Kenya, an interviewer will always be keen on how you answer this question.

A job seeker should, however, know his/her worth.

Package your answers in a way that shows you understand your job, and you know your abilities.

Here are a few responses you could pick on:

I understand that the remuneration will be equal to my duties and roles.

I believe the company has a structure that rewards every job position according to what is expected in terms of delivering.

Do not be afraid of telling the interviewers how you would like your worth to be rewarded.#myjob #hivisasaoriginal
