President Uhuru Kenyatta on Sunday indefinitely called off a meeting with Kikuyu musicians which was slotted to take place at State House on Tuesday 16, October 2018.

According to Government Spokesperson Eric Kiraithe, the meeting was postponed to 'allow adequate time and comprehensive preparations' seeing that several artistes had expressed desire to attend the meeting.

“To allow for adequate preparations so that the meeting meets the intended purpose and systematically improves the music industry in Kenya, the October 16 meeting has been postponed," said Kiraithe as quoted by Citizen Digital.

“The President is keen to meet the musicians at the earliest possible opportunity and therefore the ministry has been directed to expedite these preparations," he added.

But could this be the only reason that prompted Uhuru to decide to call off the meeting?

Well, here's a different observation as outlined below.

1. Acrimony among the artistes

In a recent article, we told you why the Kikuyu musicians' meeting with Uhuru may not bear any fruit due to the huge acrimony that exists among these artistes.

On Saturday, over 2000 Kikuyu musicians met at Blue Springs Hotel along Thika Road but couldn't even agree on who should or shouldn't attend the State House meeting. Uhuru could have gotten a wind of it prompting him to call the meeting off.

2. Calls to include all musicians from all over Kenya

Many Kenyans especially on social media platforms had expressed discontent with this apparent preferential treatment of Kikuyu artistes. Calls were made to Uhuru to include all artistes as musicians in the country face similar challenges.

Uhuru may have heeded to these calls resorting to the postponement of the Kikuyu musicians' meeting.

3. To save State House and the Presidency from shame

After the Kikuyu musicians Blue Springs Hotel meeting ended in disarray, the floor was left open for every Tom, Dick and Harry who calls themselves a Kikuyu musician to attend the meeting.

This was definitely an impending theatre of absurdity which would have unravelled right at the State House gate as everyone tries to gain entry. The President may have seen it coming and decided to do the wisest thing, call off the meeting.

4. The meeting invitation was a kind of a 'roadside declaration'

When Uhuru announced on Thursday last week during Joseph Kamaru's burial ceremony, he may have overlooked several factors including the number of artistes who may want to attend the meeting.

Therefore, this could have become a logistical nightmare for the State House staff considering the short notice prompting Uhuru to call it off.
