The recent admission of Nick Ruto, a son to Deputy President William Ruto, to the bar, should worry Rift Valley politicians, political pundit Richard Bosire argues.
On Wednesday, Nick was among over 200 lawyers who were admitted as Advocates of the High Court of Kenya, a culmination of his educational journey in the legal field, which saw his father expressing his satisfaction.
"Hearty congratulations Nick Ruto for being admitted to the Bar. As you begin a career in the legal profession, may you stand true to your calling as a defender of justice, human rights and an avid campaigner for equality and truth," Ruto wrote on his official Facebook age.
Ruto Junior has been a key figure behind his father's political journey, often sitting in strategic teams and coordinating youths across the country albeit silently and according to Bosire, the young Ruto could now join competitive politics, a reason why politicians from Rift Valley, especially Uasin Gishu or Turbo constituency should be worried.
"He is now following his father's way. We have seen him attend fundraisers and this is just an indirect communication. Should he contest, then someone will lose to him due to the father's influence. They should be worried," says the political pundit.
It is not a surprise to see children of politicians joining the field given that ODM leader Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta are such products. Former Vice President Musalia Mudavadi was also a beneficiary of his father, Mudamba Mudavadi.
While Nick could as well remain in the father's strategic team, the ever dynamic Kenya politics coupled with betrayals could inform his decision to plunge into politics, adds Bosire.
Lately, the DP is struggling to take control of his own Jubilee party, with a section of legislators ruling his chances on grounds that he has served two terms with Uhuru.
