Following President Uhuru Kenyatta’s recent statements on 2022 presidential contest which have unsettled waters within the Jubilee Party, Garissa Township MP Aden Duale has come out to allay fears that Uhuru may be keen to shortchange his deputy and supposed successor, William Ruto.

Speaking a fortnight ago in his Central political base, Uhuru sent shockwaves within the political circles when he said that his choice of a successor might shock many.

And on Friday, while speaking during the funeral of former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka’s father in Kitui County, the Jubilee Party leader said that 2022politics should be issue-based.

However, according to Duale, who is a key Ruto ally, Uhuru’s statements are not in any way meant to undermine the DP in his State House ambitions.

“By the President saying that he wants the next campaigns to be issue-based, he knows our party has a track-record. His statements do not in any way undermine the DP,” the National Assembly Majority leader said as quoted by the Sunday Nation.

This is not the first time that Duale is coming out to defend UhuRuto relationship amid claims of the fallout between the duo after the famous handshake between the President and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Issue-based politics are what counties like Garissa need in order to realise their development agendas.
