For the better part of this year, the name handshake has been widely used in dialogical approach in crisis-prone regions.
It started with Raila Odinga and President Uhuru Kenyatta, then Donald Trump with North Korean supreme leader Kim and most recently, Salva Kiir and Riek Machar.
But the Gusii political dynamics could change following the reconciliation by millionaire businessman Don Bosco Gichana and his political nemesis Richard Onyonka.
The two protagonists met on Wednesday in Nairobi despite being sworn political enemies and shook hands.
Mr. Gichana's handshake with Onyonka came just a day to his homecoming ceremony scheduled this Friday at Gusii stadium.
Already, Bosco has vowed to rally for over one million voters to the event, which he says would be used to showcase his influence for 'bargain' in future political realignments.
In 2013, Bosco lost to Onyonka in Kitutu Chache South by more than 10,000 votes. He was later arrested in Tanzania for money laundering and fraud, a crime which he pleaded guilty before his release, five years later.
While Bosco has shown signs for a possible partnership with Gusii spokesman Simba Arati for the Kisii gubernatorial seat, Onyonka has also expressed interest in the position.
