Many have been found in contradicting situations with what is not which they purport to be selling.

Many cases have been recorded in Naivasha, Nakuru and Baringo Counties.

The Meat Control (Amendment) Act (2012) documented donkey meat alongside horse meat as suitable for human consumption.

Donkey meat is solely meant for export, to China. It is not consumed locally.

People sell cat meat in the form of goat meat while donkey meat has been sold in beef packages.

The difference has been quite hard to uncover even though it indeed is quite big. But how do you know if the meat being sold to you is not what you exactly want?

Here are the simple dimensions on which you can know the kind of meat you are buying or just bought:

1. The colour

Donkey meat looks almost exactly as beef and unsuspecting customers have had to do with the consumption of that.

However, donkey meat is more 'reddish' than should be normal and takes a lot of time to cook.

There is very little fat in donkey meat and the 'white strands' of fat that are synonymous with beef are not visible.

On the other hand, cat meat is whitish and almost the same as rabbit meat. Cat meat has a lot of muscle strands and that makes it different from any other 'eatable' animal that is known.

2. Cooking

When cooking donkey meat, there is a kind of transition from one stage of the cooking to the next.

There will be a slight change in colour to almost dark brown once it starts boiling.

This change may be hard to notice but if you have cooked beef before, it is very easy to see it.

The water or the soup also changes colour and then registers a sharp change to normal after sometime.

Cat meat is hard to identify while cooking but it 'crumbles' way too abnormally in exposure to heat.

4. Taste

Donkey meat and beef have a very similar taste especially if they are exposed to the same ingredients.

On the other hand, however, cat meat is a bit sour and takes longer to cook. It is just similar to donkey meat which also takes way too long to get cooked.
