The church is regarded as a holy institution and its leadership is respected and followed by masses without questions but that is not so with a section of Kenyans who think otherwise.
Deputy President William Ruto has found himself on the receiving end from this group after he emphasized on the importance of involving the church in achieving lasting unity in the country.
Speaking in Nairobi during the Catholic Members of Parliament Initiative dinner event on Wednesday, the DP hailed the church for its role in development and vowed that Jubilee administration would continue working with it despite reports of massive corruption in the government.
"We cannot unite Kenya without the church. The church continues to be a vital partner in spearheading unity, harmonious relations among communities and an anchor to development initiatives in education and health," he said.
The DP added: "Our collective efforts will realise equity, shared prosperity and cement oneness."
But his remarks were dismissed by netizens who argued that the church has succeeded in dividing Kenyans rather than bringing them together.
Here is a sample of their reactions as posted on social media:
Benson Maloba Pepe stated: "The church leaders are so biased and even fight in church, they can't unite Kenyans."
"Me think Kenya is united it's the politicians and clerics that divides us. Divide and conquer kinda way," noted Mikeli Means.
