It is Thursday and Kenyans will litter social media pages with TBTs, Thrown Back Thursday, as they remind how far they have come.
This is one way of appreciating where an individual has come from over a period as life continues to get better.
One person who would have been quick to share his TBT if he was alive today would be Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.
On Wednesday, August 22, his son Uhuru Kenyatta led the nation to Mzee’s 40th memorial service.
Kenyatta died in 1978 at the Mombasa State Lodge.
Though many would know Mzee the President, just like other children of the hoi polloi, Johnstone Kamau, as he was known, had his share of struggles.
From being a carpenter, after scoring poor grades, to running around Nairobi reading water metres.
But all these struggles did not stop his star from shinning and became the first President of Kenya.
