Suba North MP Millie Odhiambo Mabona has congratulated David Ochieng and Julius Mawathe after they emerged victorious in the Ugenya and Embakasi South by-elections respectively.
They were held on Friday.
Through a post on her Facebook page on Saturday morning, Millie congratulated the two winners saying that is what democracy is all about.
“As a life member of ODM, I congratulate Hon. David Ochieng and Mawathe for winning Ugenya and Embakasi respectively. It is called democracy. To Hon Karan and Sumra, congratulations for the effort you put in. You live to fight another day,” said Millie Mabona.
Ochieng, vying on the Movement for Democracy and Growth Party ticket floored Orange Democratic Movement’s Chris Karan in Ugenya while Julius Mawathe, vying on the Wiper Party ticket retained his seat after defeating ODM’s Irshad Sumra.
Ochieng garnered 18,730 against Karan’s 14,507 in Ugenya while in Embakasi South, Mawathe got 21,628 votes as Irshad Sumra garnered a paltry 7,988.
The defeats leave ODM leaders with an egg on their faces especially after spirited campaigns led by the party leader Raila Odinga in the two constituencies.
The mini-polls were ordered by the Supreme Court after Karan and Mawathe’s wins during the August 08 polls were contested by Ochieng and Sumra respectively.
