Led by Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria, the leaders wants the executive expanded through the creation of the position of prime minister (PM) and two deputies.

In a proposal submitted to the Building Bridges Initiative, Kuria recommended a prime minister who will also be a member of the National Assembly either through an election or nomination.

He also proposed the first deputy prime minister be nominated to the National Assembly if he fails in the election and the second deputy prime minister be a member of the Senate through an election or nomination.

The MP argued such an arrangement will bring about the sense of inclusivity in the country's top leadership.

Echoing similar sentiments, Amani National Congress (ANC) party leader Musalia Mudavadi agreed with Kuria on the need for the PM post saying it was a necessity whose time has come.

Speaking during a Sunday mass at Redeemed Gospel Church in Outering, Nairobi, the former Deputy Prime Minister said had opposition won the 2017 elections, it was in their plans to establish the office of PM as envisaged in the Bomas draft.

"NASA had already committed to reviewing the Constitution and revisiting the Bomas draft where the parliamentary system was favoured alongside a broader structure of government," Mudavadi said.

"[This included] the position of the prime minister who would be accountable to Parliament," he added.
