The Odinga family which has dominated Nyanza politics for a long time is much expected to continue the same in 2022 politics in an effort to retain their grip in the region.
Former Kisumu Deputy Governor Ruth Odinga sister to Opposition leader Raila Odinga is likely to vie for the Kisumu gubernatorial seat in the much-anticipated race and win.
Ruth came close to the seat ahead of the 2013 elections before controversially losing to the would be Governor Jack Ranguma in the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) primaries.
She was later installed by the party as Ranguma's deputy by the party to prevent a crisis in the opposition bedrock.
However, she campaigned against him in 2017 and handed over the win to Governor Anyang Nyongo.
She is very unlikely to play the second fiddle in 2022 and will obviously be planning to use her family's big name to pull the seat to her side.
Also, just like every other person who has served as a Deputy Governor, she must be having the urge to go for the top seat, an urge she will be seeking to satisfy in 2022.
Using her popularity gained from her controversial politicking, she will obviously be seeking to change the popularity into a political office, most likely the gubernatorial seat.
Should she join the race, Ruth is very likely to win the seat.
